The Leon Stax Equation

The Leon Stax Equation are a 6 piece Soul band based in Galway. They formed in 2023 and have been blazing a trail on the Irish music scene. Their May 2026 album In View made it to #3 in the Irish independent charts with an accompanying string of sold out performances all over Ireland. The Equation is driven by band leader Leon Stax on drums and vocals, with melodic basslines, scratchy rhythm guitars and familiar yet original lyrics. Their live performances are known well across the island at this stage for bringing audiences on a journey through dizzying highs that culminate in percussion breaks to smooth and laid back lulls that have the whole audience singing along.

In the studio they self-produce all of their own releases, with plenty of use of tape and analog recording to get that warm nostalgic sound. They record their tracks live in the style of the 1960s Soul and Rock classics. They are a busy performing live band. They have toured extensively with international shows in USA, UK and mainland Europe. In Ireland they are well known on the live circuit with concerts at Electric Picnic, Fuinneamh, Elu Le Grá, Cork Jazz festival and most recently their album launch tour which included sold out shows in Galway, Cork, Sligo and Trim. Influences for the project range from The Black Keys, James Brown, Ray Charles, Led Zeppelin and The El Michels Affair to Jim James, St Germain, Jungle, The Menehan Street Band, Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings and Khruangbin.
