Sano Hill / Tommy Cullen
Sat 12th October, 2024 Doors: 8:00pm
@ Róisín Dubh (Top Bar)
The Róisín Dubh presents an intimate night of music from two of Ireland’s finest up-and-coming singer/songwriters, Galway’s own Sano Hill and Dublin-based indie artist Tommy Cullen. This night will be an entirely unique co-headline show – not one to be missed!
Sano Hill is a critically acclaimed Irish singer-songwriter based in Galway city. His music has been described as defining “a timeless recipe for original guitar music: inventive, humanist lyrics sung from the gut, then embedded in rhythms to barrage or soothe the soul' (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel). His influences range widely from Bob Dylan and Elvis Costello to Jeff Buckley, Nick Cave, U2 and Radiohead. In November 2023, Hill released his Award-winning debut album 'If Not Now, When?' (winner of the prestigious New Artist Spotlight 'Album of the Year' Award) to rave reviews with Plastic Magazine describing it as "a superb LP that showcases the full scope of his original sound across its eleven songs”. Hot Press chose album track 'Not that Kind of Love Song' as one of the 'Songs of the Week' and described the album's opening track as “best of all, my favourite track... 'Time Out' tries to capture the sound, sense and smell of Galway in a similar vein to Van Morrison's finest compositions about his native Belfast".

Named “one of the most promising singer-songwriters in the country” by Hot Press, Dublin artist Tommy Cullen brings a unique voice and vulnerable lyricism to his deeply layered indie sound. Long-awaited debut album Enjoy the Glow is the culmination of Cullen’s creative life to date, exploring the past few years through tales of everyday drudgery, true love, UFO sightings and trips to Ikea. The record was launched in Dublin to a packed Sound House in late April, bolstered by an appearance in Monroe’s supporting Aslan the week before. Since then it has received widespread airplay on the likes of RTE 2XM, Galway Bay FM, Shannonside/Northern Sound, Ocean FM etc. No stranger to stripped-back, intimate performances, “Cullen’s ability to express a range of emotion through minimalist arrangements is mesmerising.” (IndieBuddie). This collaborative show forms part of Tommy’s ‘Small Rooms’ series, his second Irish tour to date.
