Glasshouse perform Ryuichi Sakamoto

Sat 27th July, 2024 Doors: 8:00pm
@ Róisín Dubh

Acclaimed Dublin ensemble Glasshouse are proud to perform a new arrangement of the work of renowned composer and music pioneer Ryuichi Sakamoto. The concert will honour the incredible and widely lauded work of Sakamoto, who sadly passed away earlier this year. We are pleased to have the blessing of Sakamoto’s team for this tribute.

Renowned Japanese composer and producer Ryuichi Sakamoto was admired for his electronic music experimentation. He formed Yellow Magic Orchestra in 1978 and released eight studio albums with the group. He starred in the film Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence with David Bowie in 1983. His film score for The Last Emperor, in 1987, won him an Oscar, a Grammy and a Golden Globe. He continued to work throughout his life, releasing an album in January 2023, just two months before his passing.

Expect music on the night from his vast repertoire including works from 1996, Playing the Piano and Solid State Survivor by Yellow Magic Orchestraamongst many more. All in new arrangements for an ensemble of 8 including piano, synths, strings and drums. The show features a newly commissioned visual design to accompany the evening.
